"A man is ethical only when life, as such, is sacred to him, that of plants and animals as that of his fellow men, and when he devotes himself helpfully to all life that is in need of help."
Albert Schweitzer
The Pantanel in the Mato Grosso in Brazil is the world's largest wetland since the Amazonas rainforest which covered the Mato Grosso has been wiped out and replaced with chemicalised agri-factories and cattle ranches. Trees cannot re-establish themselves in the Pantanel because the tree saplings are cut down with the grass to feed more than 15 million beef cattle.
"When riding through the water-logged Pantanel I
realised that neither my horse nor I were in the least
frightened by the Crocodiles, Anacondas or Piranhas
that surrounded us. We were not on their foodchain and
they were not on ours. A phenomenon I experienced when
walking with the Masai amongst the wildlife of the
Masai Mara. We co-existed as fellow species."
